There are many people for you to get to know in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature. By giving certain items to certain people, you might even get special recipes. It's best to be friends with as many people as possible.

Ann - Ann is one of the girls you can marry. She is kind of a tomboy, as she was raised by her father after her mother died. She wears a yellow shirt and overalls. She's very nice though and an excellent cook, just like her father. Her birthday is Summer 17th, and she can be found at the Hot Spring in the morning and Doug's Place later in the day. Your rival for Ann is Cliff.

Anna - Anna is Mary's mother. Her birthday is Fall 23rd. She has black hair and wears a yellow dress, and she is typically in her house most of the day, but will sometimes go to the Supermarket or Rose Square.

Barley - Barley runs the Yodel Ranch. He is quite old and has a long beard and a green shirt. He spends his time caring for May, his granddaughter. Though he is almost always at the Yodel Ranch, he takes May to the hot spring sometimes. His birthday is Spring 17th.

Basil - The local "plant hunter," Basil wrote most of the books in the Library. He's dressed like an explorer and spends most of his time with his wife, Anna, in their house, or in the mountains. His birthday is Summer 11th.

Carter - Pastor Carter is a caring man who runs the Church and looks after the children in town. His birthday is Fall 20th, and he's rarely found anywhere other than the Church.

Cliff - Cliff is a very depressing character who always feels guilty, and therefore spends most of his time in the Church, confessing his sins. If he's not in the Church he'll be at the inn, Doug's Place, where he's staying. He courts Ann eventually. If you don't help him find work at the Vineyard, he'll leave the village forever. His birthday is Summer 6th.

Doctor - The Doctor isn't given a name, but he'll go after Elli if you don't. He wears typical doctor attire - a long, white lab coat and a stethoscope. His birthday is Fall 17th, and he'll either be at the Hospital or the mountains.

Doug - Ann's father, Doug runs the inn and bar (hence the name, Doug's Place). Doug has orange hair and can be quite nice if you get to know him. His birthday is Winter 11th, and he's rarely found anywhere but Doug's Place.

Duke - Duke works at the vineyard, and is easily identifiable with stripped white and black hair and a purple vest. His birthday is Winter 15th, and he can be found at Aja Winery and the bar at Doug's Place.

Ellen - Ellen is Elli's elderly grandmother. She used to be a midwife in her younger years, but now she's fairy lonely, so she'll appreciate it if you visit her often. Her birthday is Winter 13th, and she rarely leaves her home.

Elli - Elli is one of the girls you can marry. She has short brown hair and wears a blue dress. She takes care of her grandmother, Ellen, and her brother, Stu. Her birthday is Spring 16th and she can be found at Mineral Clinic, Ellen's house, or the Supermarket. Your rival for Elli is the Doctor.

Gotz - Gotz is the local carpenter and will take care of house upgrades for you. He wears a white shirt and has a brown beard. His cabin is secluded from the village, in the woods beneath the mountain. His birthday is Fall 2nd, and he can be found at the Supermarket, in the mountains, or at his home during most of the day.

Gray - Gray is Saibara's apprentice at the Blacksmith, and also his nephew. He seems to have some issues with Saibara, and is always a little depressed. His most notable characteristic is his blue cap. His birthday is Winter 6th, and he's usually at the Blacksmith, the Library, or Doug's Place. If you don't try to marry Mary, he will.

Greg - The local fisherman, Greg gives you the rod and is the only black character in the game. He has white hair and is identifiable due to his skin. His birthday is Spring 29th. He only appears at the Dock from 8 to 10 AM and 8 to 10 PM from Friday to Sunday.

Harris - No longer the mailman as he was in the Nintendo 64 game, Harris is now the local police officer. He wears a blue uniform and likes to take naps at Doug's Place in the afternoon. Apparently he lives with Mayor Thomas. His birthday is Summer 4th and he can be found at Doug's Place or Mayor Thomas' home.

Jeff - Jeff owns and operates the local Supermarket. He's married to Sasha, and is in financial trouble because he sometimes lets people get away without paying. His birthday is Winter 29th, and he's found only at the Supermarket.

Kai - Kai competes for Popuri, and will come during the first Summer. He runs the Summer Lodge on the beach, and will sell interesting food items that you cannot buy during the rest of the year. He's dark-skinned and wears a purple bandanna, and his birthday is Summer 22nd.

Kano - Kano, the village photographer, lives with the Mayor. He has black hair and a suit. His birthday is Winter 2nd and he can be seen at the Mayor's house or the bar at Doug's Place.

Karen - Karen is one of the girls you can marry. Karen is Jeff's daughter and is a bit of an alcoholic. She is beautiful singer and dancer, however. Her birthday is Fall 15th, and she can be found at many locations in Mineral Village, such as outside of the Supermarket, inside the Supermarket, at Mineral Beach, at Doug's Place, outside of the Hot Spring, or at Gotz's home. Your rival for Karen is Rick.

Lillia - Lillia is Popuri's mother and operates the chicken ranch, Chicken Lil's. She stays home most of the time because of her illness, but her husband went looking for an herb to heal her. She has long pink hair, her birthday is Spring 19th, and she can be found at Chicken Lil's.

Louis - Louis is a bee specialist that is staying with Gotz. He wears a green outfit and usually won't leave Gotz's home. His birthday is Spring 2nd, and if you get bees to start making honey at your farm (by planting a lot of flowers), Louis will help you raise the price of the honey if you bring him some.

Manna - Manna talks a lot, so be careful when visiting her. Her birthday is Fall 11th, and she usually stays at Aja Winery or Rose Square.

Mary - Mary is one of the girls you can marry. She is the quiet librarian with black hair and glasses. She's very kind but painfully shy. Her birthday is Winter 20th and she can be found at the Library. Your rival for Mary is Gray.

May - Barley's granddaughter, her mother left her with Barley when she was very little. May wears a red dress and has pigtails, and is friends with Stu. Her birthday is Winter 26th and she hangs around Yodel Ranch, the Hot Spring, or outside of the Church.

Mayor Thomas - Mayor Thomas is a friendly character, and will help you out at the beginning of the game, but don't expect any favors from him if you haven't turned the farm around by the end of the three years. He's small, with a red suit and top-hat. His birthday is Summer 25th and he is usually at his house.

Popuri - Popuri is one of the girls you can marry. She has pink hair and a black shirt, and works at Chicken Lil's. She is Rick's sister and Lillia's daughter. Her birthday is Summer 3rd and she can be found at the Hot Spring in the morning and Chicken Lil's during most of the day. Your rival for Popuri is Kai.

Rick - Rick is Popuri's brother. He does most of the work at Chicken Lil's, and has blond hair. He hates Kai, mainly because Kai is trying to woo Popuri. His birthday is Fall 27th and he can be found at Chicken Lil's or the Supermarket.

Saibara - Saibara is the elderly blacksmith. He can be rude but is kind at heart. His birthday is Spring 11th and he is usually at his shop or the Supermarket.

Sasha - Jeff's wife, Sasha lives at the Supermarket and encourages Jeff not to let people buy items "on credit." She has short blond hair and often chats with the other ladies in the square. Her birthday is Spring 30th, and you can find her at the Supermarket or Rose Square.

Stu - Stu is the little boy that is friends with May. He is Ellen's grandson, and Elli's brother. His birthday is Fall 5th. Stu usually is at Ellen's house or right outside the Church.

Won - This eastern-looking person is sometimes shady and will try to sell you things you don't need. He wears a yellow suit, colorful hat, and sunglasses, with a ponytail. He'll stop by your farm and offer you various items, some of which will be legitimate but others will not (hit - the dog ball is definitely legitimate). His birthday is Winter 19th, and you can find him at Doug's Place around 3 PM each weekday if you want to buy some of the special seeds he sells.

Zack - Zack is a burly, mean-looking person who is really slower to anger then he appears. He comes by your farm every day at 5 PM to pick up produce you have to sell, and will pay your for it. He won't come on festival days, however, so anything you place in the bin that day will be wasted, as will anything you place in the bin after 5 PM. His house is on the beach next to Kai's Summer Lodge, but you cannot enter it. His birthday is Summer 29th and you can find him at the Supermarket or walking around from your farm to the beach.
