Harvest Moon: BTN Farm
Your farm in Harvest Moon: Back to Nature consists of several key buildings and a large pasture. It has a river forming one side of it, and fences around the rest. By pressing "Select" and then "Start," you can see an overhead view of your farm, which is quite useful for locating weeds or figuring out what you've planted where.
House - Your home is where you begin and end your day. It can be upgraded twice, but when you start out it is nothing more than a single room with a toolbox, nightstand, television, and calendar. To go to sleep, go to the nightstand and press X - writing in your diary saves the game. All of your tools are stored in the chest by the door; upgrading your rucksack (at the Supermarket) allows you to carry more tools. Once you upgrade your house, you get the kitchen, and can begin cooking. A second upgrade will provide a bedroom and is a prerequisite for marriage.
Mailbox - You can get letters from villagers, so check this daily.
Dog House - This is where your dog will sleep if you leave him out overnight.
Barn - The barn houses your cows and sheep. Without being upgraded, it can hold ten cows and/or sheep, but after being upgraded it can hold up to twenty. Fodder can be collected from spouts in the back of the barn, and should be placed in individual stalls. Any produce collected can be shipped by placing it in the bin near the door.
Silo - Fodder is automatically stored here when you buy any from the Yodel Ranch or cut grass on your farm. Remove fodder from the spouts in the barn.
Wood Shed - Any lumber you collect is stored here automatically. To get lumber, chop stumps with your axe (it must be at least a 2nd level, or copper, axe). You can take individual pieces of wood out of here to build fences.
Stable - You need to put your horse in here on days with bad weather. There's plenty of hay and water for your horse in here, so there's no need for you to feed it.
Hothouse - The hothouse goes next to your home once you build it. It has a water bin and a shipping bin, for you to fill your watering can and ship crops, respectively. There's room for four three-by-three plots of crops, and you can grow any crop year-round, regardless of season. Don't get too attached to it, however, since the hothouse can be blown over by hurricanes in the summer or snowstorms in the winter.
Apple Tree - This tree will produce apples for you, free of effort, in Fall. You'll get one apple per day. If you plant a lot of flowers on your farm, bees will make a hive in the tree and you can collect their honey. Take some honey to Louis, at Gotz's home, and he'll help you sell it for more money.
Fish Pond - Use this pond to fill your watering can or place fish in here to breed them. Buy feed from the Supermarket and get it from the bin next to the pond, and feed your fish daily (only one "scoop" per day is necessary, regardless of how many fish you have). The fish will eventually multiply and grow larger, if you take good care of them. You can remove fish whenever you want by pressing X next to the pond when you have nothing in your hands.
Chicken Coop - The default chicken coop will hold five chickens, but an upgraded one will hold twice that. Take chicken feed from the spout in the back and place it in each bin for each chicken. Place eggs in the incubators to hatch your own chicks, or sell eggs by putting them in the shipping bin.
Water Mill - Place corn in the mill to create your own chicken feed.
Field - The vast pasture is yours to plant crops and grass. The area of the field closest to the shipping bin and chicken coop is best suited for crops, whereas grass should be planted on the back half. Be sure to grow plenty of crops for money, and plenty of grass for fodder for your cows and sheep. You can even build your own fences with wood taken from the wood shed, or put your cows and sheep out to pasture to graze on fully-grown grass. Chickens will also find food in the dirt, as long as your dog is outside to protect them.
