Harvest Moon: FoMT Farm

The farm on FoMT is nearly identical to the BTN farm, with only a few minor changes. In FoMT, the small pond is used only for filling your watering can, honey can be retrieved every day of every season from the apple tree, and there is no way to get a greenhouse. Most locations on your farm are labeled with signs, so just read the sign if you aren't sure about something. It's important to note that time stops indoors. Use this to your advantage.

1) House - Your house is where you wake up every morning, unless you've slept in one of the other houses. It starts out small but can be upgraded twice to become more spacious, and you can buy accessories for it that make your life more comfortable. When you begin, your house will only have a calendar, a TV, a bed, the tool box, and a table. You can purchase many things from the shopping channel and from Gotz for your home. Some items, such as the fireplace, bathroom, and vase, will recover your stamina or reduce your fatigue. You can find all of your tools in the tool box, and that's where items you buy will go if you don't have room for them in your rucksack. You can save in the diary by your bed, but you can also save from the menu at any location, so it's not really necessary. Getting the kitchen and cooking is an important aspect of the game.

2) Mailbox - You'll occasionally receive letters from the villagers. They don't come too often, but when they do you usually need to act quickly, so check often. It can be upgraded by Gotz for a new look.

3) Dog House - Your dog stays here when you leave him out at night, but you'll never actually see your dog use the dog house. It's mainly for decorative purposes, but a truth jewel can be found on its roof (see the jewels page for more information). It can be upgraded by Gotz to look more interesting if you so desire.

4) Silo - This automatically holds all the fodder you cut from grass on your farm with your sickle or buy from the Yodel Farm. There's no need to put anything in this - it's all automated. You can check how much fodder you have at the sign out front.

5) Barn - When you start out, the barn will only be large enough to hold eight cows or sheep (you can have any combination of the two). Get the barn upgraded by Gotz to be able to hold 16 animals instead. Fodder can be obtained from spouts in the back, and each cow or sheep will need one piece of fodder in its feed bin each day. You can use the shipping bin inside to ship any type of item. The cheese and yarn makers will be placed in here when you buy them from the blacksmith. Take animals outside by pushing them out the door, and bring them back inside by pushing them back through the door. Most animals want to be outside on good days.

6) Wood Bin - Any lumber you cut from stumps or purchase from Gotz will be automatically stored here. You can see how much lumber you have for house upgrades or fence building by checking the sign out front. To remove lumber for making a fence, just walk up to the bin and press "A."

7) Stable - The stable is where your horse lives. Push (or ride) him in here if you know it's going to be bad weather the next day. You won't need to feed your horse when he's in here - there's plenty of hay and water to keep him sustained.

8) Crop Field - The field is expansive (43 squares by 25) and has plenty of room for planting crops, flowers, and grass. You can build fences on the field by using small rocks, branches, lumber, or golden lumber. Make sure fences are completely enclosed to avoid letting in stray dogs to get your animals. You need to till the soil before planting seeds, and anything that can be used as a fence can be used to remove tilled soil. Broken fences can be destroyed with the hammer.

9) Apple Tree - You can collect one piece of honey from this tree every day, regardless of season. In Fall, three apples will fall each day and can be sold for a good price, eaten, or given as gifts.

10) Water Mill - Your mill will produce chicken feed if you throw in corn. One ear of corn will produce 30 pieces of chicken feed, so it's more cost-effective than buying chicken feed from the poultry farm.

11) Chicken Coop - The chicken coop will hold four chickens before you get Gotz to upgrade it, and then it will hold eight. Chicken feed can be retrieved from the spout in the back and placed in the bins to keep your chickens alive. Eggs can be placed in the incubator(s) to raise more chickens, but once you have eight you cannot put any more eggs in the incubator. There is also a shipping bin inside that can be used to ship anything that is capable of being shipped.

12) Shipping Bin - Your farm has three shipping bins - the one outside, the one in the barn, and the one in the chicken coop. If you have a lot to ship, use the ones in the buildings since time stops indoors. Anything placed in the shipping bin will be picked up by Zack at 5 PM and shipped for a profit, but if you place items in the bin on holidays or after 5 PM you'll have to wait until the next day Zack comes before you'll be paid. However, items placed in the bins will never spoil no matter how long it takes Zack to get them, so you'll always be paid for items placed in the bins.

13) River - The river is a good place to fish when you're first starting out. Weeds, stones, and branches can be thrown away in the river to clear off your land. Though the river runs all through Mineral Town, you may only litter on the portion that runs past your farm without being disliked by the villagers. Anything thrown in the river at another point will make the people unhappy with you.
