Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town starts when you come to check on an old friend of yours. You had spent some time with him on his farm in the past, and met a pretty girl, and the two of you had kept in touch, but now he's stopped writing. You find he's passed away and left the farm to you. It's in disrepair however, and it's up to you to turn it around. Unlike other Harvest Moon games, you have an unlimited amount of time to do this. You can plant crops, raise animals, meet people, get married, and start a family - all at your own pace.

Controls

  • A - Pick up item/open doors/throw item/talk/confirm selection
  • B - Use tool/cancel menu/place the item you're holding in rucksack
  • Start - Pause game and bring up menu
          < Diary - Save/load your game and change settings
          < Rucksack - Highlight a tool and press "A" twice to equip it, and take items out of your rucksack the same way
          < World Map - Shows a map of Mineral Town and tells you about places
          < Farm Map - Shows an overhead view of your farm
          < Earnings - Detailed information about your farm
          < Memo - Keeps track of how much you've shipped, fish you've caught, and mini-games
          < Tutorial - Find out basic farming techniques
  • L - Whistle for dog/horse/person
  • R - Hold down to run or walk (can be changed in Diary)
  • Select - Shows Earnings screen

    Advanced Button Combinations

  • L+A - Remove items from rucksack (press multiple times to cycle items)
  • L+B - Eats item if you're holding an edible item, or cycles tools if you're holding a tool
  • L+Down - Whistles for horse
  • L+Up - Whistles for dog
  • L+Start - Shows World Map
  • L+Select - Shows Farm Map
  • A+B - Shows Rucksack

    How to Play

    You start out by giving everything a name, and then you're off to the farm. It's a good idea to watch the tutorials from the game menu first. You'll need to clear off your land by chopping branches and pulling weeds. Once you upgrade your axe and hammer, you'll need to chop stumps and break up boulders. You should gather items from the mountain and beach and sell them and buy some seeds from the Supermarket to plant. Once your harvest comes in, you should buy a chicken or two and breed some more. Eventually you'll have enough for a rucksack upgrade to make foraging quicker, and then a cow. Every day you should give a flower or other gift to the girl you intend to marry. You'll have your farm up and running in no time.
