Harvest Moon 3 Animals
In Harvest Moon 3 you can raise four different types of animals: horses, cows, chickens, and sheep. You can have up to eight of each different type of animal, which gives the possibility of 32 animals! That might seem like a lot of animals to feed and brush each day, and to collect produce from, but don't get worried. Your partner (if you play as the guy) will do all of that for you. If you play as the girl, sure, you have to do it yourself, but then again you never have to work in the field, so I don't want to hear you complaining! All animals can be male or female, depending on which you buy, and you'll need both if you want to produce offspring. Here's an overview of each different type of animal.
Pet - At the beginning of the game you get to choose from one of eight different pets: a big dog, a medium dog, a puppy, a pig, a black cat, a white cat, a calico cat, or a hawk. Each pet has a special function. The dogs protect your animals when you leave them in the fields overnight (so your animals don't get upset), the cats bring you seeds, the hawk brings flower seeds, and the pig brings money. Don't count on seeds or money on a very usual basis, however. Your pet seems to be pretty unreliable when it comes to that.
Horses - You can buy or breed up to eight horses in this version of Harvest Moon, although horses bring you no profit. You can, however, ride adult horses if you have the saddle. You can also enter adult horses in a horse race which, if you win, will increase your farmer rating.
Chickens - Chickens are the cheapest animals, yet can bring much profit quickly, and on a reliable basis. Female chickens will lay eggs every day if you keep them fed. If you get the book on mayonnaise for the girl, she'll make it for you sometimes, and it's worth 300G a bottle!
Cows - Cows are the mainstay of your farm. They're expensive, but definitely worth it. An adult female cow will give you milk every day if it's happy, and even a small milk will fetch a pretty penny. Cows need to be brushed every day, and should be taken outside on clear days. Only leave them out overnight if you have a pet dog.
Sheep - Sheep are usually not worth the trouble, as they don't produce every day and their wool doesn't sell for exceptionally much, but you still need to have at least 3 to accomplish your female partner's dad's dream (wow, that was confusing!).
