Harvest Moon: STH Animals
You'll need to rely on animals for much of your farm's income. You should try to get as many animals as possible as soon as possible. Some animals you can get for free, but cows and chickens - the money-producers - will need to be purchased from the Brownie Farm. You can have up to 5 cows and 6 chickens. You'll need to use fodder to feed the cows and chicken feed to feed the chickens.
Dog - In STH you can have one of two stray dogs that wonder around the village. Before you claim a dog as your own, you'll need to put food in the dog dish every day and eventually they'll start coming closer to you. After a while you can just go and pick one up, and from then on he'll stay with you. If you don't have a dog house you'll need to bring your dog inside on rainy days. Remember to feed him every day. Once you get the flute from Louis, you can train your dog to do tricks.
Horse - Do some part-time work for Bob and he'll eventually give you a horse. You'll need to brush and talk to it every day for it to like you. Once your horse loves you more, you can ride him around the village. You'll need to feed your horse daily and keep him inside on rainy days, but be sure to let him outside on clear days. The more your horse likes you, the faster he'll run.
Chickens - Chickens cost 500 G. It's best to only buy one chicken and raise the rest from eggs. Feed them with chicken feed daily, unless you're going to leave them outside, in which case you won't need to provide food for them. Be sure to put them inside on rainy days, however. You do not need to feed chicks, and a happy chicken will produce an egg a day.
Cows - Cows are expensive, but you can make an adult cow pregnant by buying the C.M. Potion for 2000 G. Adult cows will produce milk daily (unless pregnant), but you'll need the milker in order to collect the milk. You should feed cows daily if they remain inside, but if you have high grass in your field you can put the cows outside and they'll eat the grass. Brush and talk to your cows daily and their affection for you will increase. There are three sizes of milk produced: Small (worth 150 G), Medium (200 G), Large (300 G), and Gold (400 G).
