a beautiful misinterpretation

kitchen_island.jpgThis may be pathetic, but I was looking at the cover of a Popular Science magazine when I saw the title, “How to Build a Kitchen Island.” After a few seconds the intended meaning became apparent to me, but my initial thought was, “Sweet! An island with a kitchen on it!” I immediately imagined a tiny, Far Side-esque island with nothing but a kitchen and a palm tree on it, eager to be used by a hungry tourist or shipwrecked sailor. After all, that would pretty much be a dream come true – all the perks of living on a tropical island with nothing to worry about but your next meal, which can easily be prepared thanks to the provided kitchen and its limitless supply of food. One day…
